Trading Glossary
Glossary trade refers to a type of trading strategy where traders use a predefined set of terms, definitions, or concepts to make informed decisions. It often involves industry-specific jargon, financial metrics, and analytical tools to navigate markets effectively.

A
Aggregation
Merging futures contracts to increase market exposure and manage risk, often achieved through spreads or strips.
Algorithmic Trading
Algorithmic trading is the marriage of trading and computer software. Instead of the trader monitoring the market all the time, they set predetermined instructions that take into consideration the price, timing, quantity or any mathematical model.
Based on these instructions, the system executes the trades, thus minimizing intervention of human emotions in trading.
Moreover, algorithmic trading can potentially generate profits more quickly and frequently beyond human capability.
All Or None
When an investor puts an All Or None (AON) order, they are giving the broker the following instructions: either fill the whole order or none at all.
In other words, the trader is asking not to allow for any partial fills of the order.
Let us have a simple example to help you understand the mechanism of this order. An investor wants to buy 300 shares of Amazon at 200 USD, which means he wants this order to be filled only if all the 300 shares are priced at 200 USD.
Now the last point that remains to clarify is why inventors choose this order. AON orders are particularly useful for thinly-traded securities.
Alpha
Alpha, in the trading world, is a measure of performance for your strategy or portfolio. It shows whether or not you are beating the market. If you are “beating the market”, then you are making excess returns.
The alpha can be positive or negative, depending on its proximity to the market. A positive Alpha indicates a successful strategy yielding above-market returns.
A negative Alpha suggests that the strategy needs some adjustments and reassessment.
Altcoin
Well this term is something like Alt+ coin, where Alt is the short term for alternative. That being said, Altcoins are the alternative cryptocurrencies to Bitcoin.
When Bitcoin was successfully launched, altcoins were introduced, projecting themselves as a better alternative to Bitcoins.
The term is still used among traders to refer to lower cap cryptocurrencies.
Alternative Investments
When we have an “alternative” option, we are actually stating that we also have a conventional one. Let us explain alternative investment in this way to make it easier to comprehend.
Conventional investment usually includes equity, income, and cash categories. Alternative investments refer to assets that do not fall within these categories. Some examples of alternative investments are private equity or venture capital, hedge funds, real property, commodities, and tangible assets.
What sets alternative investments apart from the conventional ones is that they have fewer regulations from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and are somewhat illiquid.
